By IBAM (Instituto Bem Ambiental) and CAU-BR
The UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Pará, will feature the Resilient Cities Pavilion as one of the central spaces of the urban agenda, located in the Blue Zone, the official area of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The Instituto Bem Ambiental (IBAM), founded by Grupo MYR, has been designated by the UNFCCC to coordinate the pavilion and engage universities, international organizations, local governments, planning entities, civil society, and the private sector.
Resilient Cities Pavilion
As one of the main discussion hubs of COP30, the Resilient Cities Pavilion—coordinated by the Instituto Bem Ambiental (IBAM) in partnership with the Brazilian Council of Architecture and Urbanism (CAU/BR), the Federal Council of Chemistry (CFQ), the MYR Group, and 15 other key content partners—will bring together local governments, universities, organizations, the private sector, and national and international institutions to discuss urban adaptation and climate action.
The initiative reinforces Brazil’s leadership in the local climate action agenda and positions the country as a global convener of urban solutions.
The pavilion will serve as a meeting point and hub for relevant discussions on urban adaptation, featuring the participation of authorities, scientists, specialists, organizations, academia, and funding and cooperation agencies. Over 10 days, it will host lectures, panels, exhibitions, interviews, and launches.
One of the key goals of the Resilient Cities Pavilion in the Blue Zone is to bridge global climate decisions with their implementation across diverse territories and communities.
This is the first Brazilian pavilion with a technical focus specifically on urban climate adaptation, nature-based solutions (NbS), and resilient territorial planning, promoting a direct connection between UN multilateral decisions and local implementation in Brazilian cities and communities.
During the Climate Conference in Belém, the space will host forums on urban adaptation, water resources, nature-based solutions, integrated urban development, sustainable urban mobility and transport decarbonization, health ecosystems, green infrastructure, sustainable drainage, adaptive urban planning, and climate finance for municipalities, among other themes.
Institutional representatives from Brazil, Canada, France, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, and Colombia are expected to participate, bringing together public and private institutions. The agenda also includes panels with the Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact, in which IBAM serves as one of the Regional Units within the governance of this key national initiative.
The pavilion will host more than 50 panels, lectures, side events, dialogue sessions, and interactive exhibitions, featuring over 200 national and international experts. Case studies on municipal adaptation and technical project results from IBAM and its content partners will be presented, along with practical experiences from professional councils.
A multimedia exhibition will also showcase images and stories captured during the COP30 Motorhome Expedition.
Throughout COP30, the program will be organized around four thematic axes:
(i) Adaptation and Green Infrastructure;
(ii) Fair Transition and Clean Energy;
(iii) Climate Finance; and
(iv) Climate Education and Engagement.
