Built by Brazil Program at the AsBEA 2024 Convention

AsBEA, through Built by Brazil, its Internationalization Program maintained by AsBEA-SP in partnership with Apex-Brasil, held the Built by Brazil Program at the AsBEA 2024 Convention, aiming to promote knowledge exchange between professionals specialized in architecture and urban planning in Brazil and Paraguay.

Built by Brazil at the AsBEA 2024 Convention took place at the entity’s main annual meeting, this time held in Florianópolis between July 19 and 22, 2024. Designed to both strengthen ties with one of the leading experts in architecture and urban planning in Paraguay and promote the image of Built by Brazil members, the main activity of the Program was the panel: Urban Development and Sustainability ? Cases: Asunción and São Paulo. The guest speaker was the Paraguayan architect and urban planner, founding partner of EST Arq., Carlos Jimenez.

Maria Florencia Gamen, director of Costos Magazine, one of the main media outlets on the construction market in Paraguay, was invited to cover the Program.

Brazilian participants included representatives from some of the main architecture and urban planning offices associated with the event: Stemmer Rodrigues – Paulo Henrique Rodrigues, Addor & Associados – Miriam Addor, OSPA – Flávia Tissot, Königsberger Vannucchi Arquitetos Associados – Gianfranco Vannucchi and Carla Estrella, D&P Arquitetura – Danilo Batista, aflalo / gasperini – Roberto Aflalo and Archscape – Gustavo Garrido.

To maximize the participation of international guests and members, two main activities were planned for the program: a panel on urban development and sustainability and an exhibition of services provided by firms associated with Built by Brazil. The panel was attended by Carlos Jiménez, Liliana Sá and Gustavo Garrido, and the mediation and commentary were provided by Miriam Addor and Paulo Henrique Rodrigues. The exhibition, held in digital format through panels, was aimed at presenting the services offered by the firms, with a focus on the attributes to be promoted in the Paraguayan market.

Built by Brazil Program at the AsBEA 2024 Convention

The program began with the arrival of international participants in Florianópolis and their participation in the opening ceremony of the AsBEA National Convention, where, during the cocktail party, they were able to have their first contact with the participating Built by Brazil members.

The following morning, Carlos and Maria Florência were welcomed for breakfast by the presidents of AsBEA-SP, Gustavo Garrido, and AsBEA-BR, Danilo Batista, and participated in the Convention’s seminar program. After the morning session, the first official activity of the Program took place: a luncheon for the international guests and representatives of the offices associated with Built by Brazil.

After lunch, in parallel with the seminar presentations at the convention, an exclusive visit to the Built by Brazil exhibition was held for guests. During the visit, representatives of the associated firms took turns presenting their exhibition material to the guests, explaining in more detail the attributes of their service offerings to Carlos Jimenez. Following the presentations, the representatives gave exclusive interviews to Florencia Gamen, briefly describing the firm’s professional trajectory and the main aspects of the service offerings that can be offered to the Paraguayan market.

On Friday, June 21, the main event of the Built by Brazil Program was held at the AsBEA Convention with the seminar: Urban Development Cases: Asunción and São Paulo. With a full auditorium, the seminar began with a presentation by international guest Carlos Jimenez, who offered a perspective on the contribution of architecture to the development of cities, from the perspective of individual architectural projects, as opposed to the perspective of urban planning. Thanks to his presentation, those present were able to understand the reality of project development in Paraguay and learn more about the discipline applied to the reality of the capital of the neighboring country.

In his presentation, Gustavo Garrido showed the development of São Paulo from the perspective of river axes, describing the urban projects carried out in these areas and other possible perspectives considering experiences from other cities. Liliana Sá demonstrated the experience of the Königsberger Vannucchi in carrying out projects in São Paulo and her view on the challenges and opportunities of urban legislation. At the end of the panel, a question-and-answer session was held, moderated by Miriam Addor and Paulo Henrique Rodrigues, when aspects of urban development in both cities were compared, offering the audience a rich scenario of perspectives for the implementation of urban planning services.

After the end of the seminar, the closing lunch of the Built by Brazil Program at the AsBEA Convention was held, with the participation of the presidents of AsBEA-SP and AsBEA-BR, in gratitude for the participation of the international guests. On Saturday, guests also participated in a visit to the Viva Park Portobello planned neighborhood, offered by AsBEA and the developers of the project, where guests had the opportunity to experience first-hand an example of urban planning carried out in Brazil.
