Collectors of contemporary art, the residents of Casa Yucatán wanted a spacious, bright, and airy home, in close contact with nature, that could also showcase their collection.
Seven box-like volumes — of different sizes and finishes — were distributed asymmetrically across the front of the site, leaving an ample garden at the back. Set forward or recessed in relation to one another, the volumes create spaces between them that, covered by a slab roof, serve as circulation areas and the main living room, housing the couple’s art collection.
A natural pool, extending to the back of the site, benefits from a water use, reuse, and treatment system that combines aquatic plants and various species of fish.
